What is a Warré Hive?
A Warre hive is a vertical top bar hive that uses bars instead of frames, usually with a
wooden wedge or guide from which the bees build their own comb.
This type of hive was developed by Abbé Émile Warré (1867-1951)
His hive is simplistic and bee-friendly. It was designed most specifically for overwintering
bee colonies in the cold French climate and works very well in the central and northern U.S.
